Preparations for laying concrete for "Swami Vivekananda Auditorium" started at the dawn of 15th Feb, 2008 - Friday. There were
around 150 workers who came to Ashram at around 1 A.M morning on the same day. While the workers were setting up the "Mixer" and
the "Lift" like structure, "Durga Homa" was performed inside the Ashram to invoke the blessings of Holy Mother Shri
Sharadadevi. Devotees chanted "Lalitha Sahasranama", "Vishnu Sahasranama" and sung Bhajans the whole day while moulding
work was going on parallely.
Around 200 Sq. feet of concrete (7 inches thick) had to be laid. Around 40 tons of
Iron was being laid. In all , four mixers ( which mixes cement, gravel , stones and water) were setup, two each on either
side of the building. There were 4 teams of workers and there were 4 boys from "Yuvaka Sangha" at each Mixer overseeing the mixing and playing the roles of "Quality Control" engineers.
The mixing proportion was set by Engineers. It was in the ratio 1:5:5 ( cement: gravel: stones). It was a strenuous job
demanding lot of physical strength , but the workers are used to it.
Yuvaka Sangha" boys showed lot of commitment in ensuring that proper proportions of cement, gravel and stones goes into the
concrete.
After proper proportions of cement , gravel and stones were put into the container, the mixture was poured into a rotating
mixer. The concrete in the Mixer was then lifted to the top using a motor and poured to trolleys.
Workers pushed the trolleys and took them to the place where concrete was being laid. The trolley wheels ran on "Wooden planks
".
The work started at 9 A.M and went on unabatedly till 2 P.M. Workers took a lunch break at 2 P.M , but they returned to
work immediatly at 2:45 P.M.When dark set in, focus lights illuminated the building that facilitated the concrete laying
work. The workers were working tirelessly from 3 P.M.When they took a break for dinner, it was 9 P.M. But they immediatly
returned to work at 10 P.M. It was truly exacting, exhausting and demanding work for them.
When the work completed , it was 6 A.M, Saturday morning.
