Swami Abhedananda has eloquently eulogized the purity of Mother thus;

         To her whose character is pure, to her whose life is pure, to her who is verily the personification of purity, To her my repeated salutations.

         Holy Mother’s exceptional purity makes a lasting impression on any student of her life. What to speak of others, Sri Ramakrishna himself attested to her sterling purity and exclaimed, ‘Had she not been as pure as she was, who knows if I could have remained pure throughout!’ What a touching tribute to this towering virtue!

         Holy Mother was established in such extraordinary purity that she was purer than the all-purifying Ganga. An orthodox lady of her household once insisted on bathing in the evening after she had accidentally touched a dog. Mother discouraged her since it was winter and asked her to wash her hands and feet and change her clothes. But the woman was not satisfied. Sharada Devi then asked her to sprinkle and drink a few drops of Ganga. When this too failed to satisfy the woman, Holy Mother said, ‘Then touch me.’ – A plain declaration of her own purity! Surprisingly, the conservative mind to which even touching Ganga was not sufficient a remedy acquiesced to Mother’s bidding. She touched Mother and peace was restored.
